Color zirconia ceramics are prepared by various methods, the following are several common preparation processes:
Doping method: this is one of the commonly used methods. By adding different kinds and proportions of metal oxides or other colorants to zirconia powder, color changes can be achieved during high temperature sintering. For example, metal oxides such as iron, cobalt, nickel, etc. can make zirconia show different colors.
Sol-gel method: This method involves mixing a zirconia precursor with a colorant to form a homogeneous sol, which then forms a solid structure through a gelation process. After drying and sintering, zirconia ceramics with specific colors are obtained. This method allows for more uniform color distribution and finer color control.
Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD): This is a technique that utilizes a chemical reaction to deposit a thin film on the surface of a substrate. By controlling the type and flow rate of the reaction gas, a thin film with a specific color can be deposited on the zirconia surface, thus changing the overall color.
Physical vapor deposition (PVD) method: Similar to CVD, but uses a physical process rather than a chemical reaction. The coloring material is deposited onto the surface of the zirconia by means of evaporation or sputtering, forming a colored coating.
Each of these methods has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the choice depends on the desired color effect, the cost of production, and the application of the product.
